Survey of wildlife and flora
Development in rural settings requires special care to protect natural habitats. Surveys of wildlife and flora, which are designed to assess the presence of threatened or vulnerable animal and plant species in order to protect them, are required by the Quebec government’s department for sustainable development, the environment, and fauna and parks (MDDEFP).
This requirement applies to residential construction projects and water-network and sewer construction projects that may affect coastlines, shorelines, lake floodplains, streams, wetlands, marshes, ponds, and bogs
What is a survey of wildlife and flora?
We go directly on site to survey the presence of threatened or vulnerable animal and plant species in accordance with the Regulation respecting threatened or vulnerable wildlife species and their habitats (RRQ, E-12.01). We also survey the presence of wetlands and bodies of water. With the results of our survey of wildlife and flora in hand, builders and municipalities can adjust their projects in order to be compliant with stipulations designed to protect species and their habitats.
